What does oatmeal do for the face?

I was surprised to learn just how many benefits humble oats have for skin.

Gently Cleanses – oats contain saponins which acts as a natural cleanser, gently removing dirt and oil, without stripping the skin of its natural oils.

Moisturising – Oats create a protective barrier on the skin that helps minimise water loss and lock in moisture. They also contain lipids and proteins that serve as natural moisturisers for the skin.

Soaks up excess oil – Oats help regulate your skins natural oil production, keeping sebum levels under control reducing oiliness and breakouts

Improves Skin Complexion – Oats minimise age spots, acne scars and evens out skin tone and pigmentation, brightening the skin and giving it a healthy glow.

Stimulates collagen production – Oats contain a number of nutrients that support collagen production. They are rich in silica, which aids in the manufacture of collagen and elastin. Additionally, oats provide essential nutrients like B vitamins, vitamin E, zinc, iron, and magnesium, all of which support various processes involved in collagen synthesis.

Anti-aging – oats can help minimise the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and other visible effects of skin aging, helping to preserve a more youthful appearance thanks to beta-glucans and the antioxidants oats contain.

Anti-inflammatory – oats help soothe and calm irritated skin and has long been used to ease Eczema symptoms, making it a good choice for those with sensitive skin

Is oatmeal soap good for wrinkles?

Beta-glucan has the amazing ability to promote skin regeneration and repair. It improves the skin’s natural ability to retain moisture and has hydrophilic properties, meaning its attracts water leading to a plumping effect smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also a prebiotic for the skin microbiome which does all kinds of good for the skin. Oh and it that wasn’t enough it also has antioxidant properties. As an ingredient in skin care products beta-glucan’s recommended usage rate for efficacy is 1% and the humble oats have 2-8% beta-glucan by weight, so more than enough to provide beneficial properties for your skin!

Combine this with the nutrients that support collagen synthesis and oats ability to lock in moisture and you have a great natural ingredient for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
