If you’re like me and standing around waiting for moisturiser to soak in just isn’t on your list of priorities, but your skin is screaming for some nourishment, then this DIY body oil is for you. Whats even better it takes only minutes to make!! Who said you don’t have time for DIY?

So What is a Body Oil?

Body oils are great to use in place of a lotion or moisturiser. This is particularly beneficial if you are trying to remove toxins from your personal care products but don’t have an unlimited budget. Lowtox Moisturisers can be costly. A DIY Body oil is great alternative to a moisturiser as it super simple to make yourself in a few minutes and as it doesn’t contain any water, which can habor bacteria growth, it has a longer shelf life.

What’s the Best Way to Use a Body Oil?

This is the bit I like! Body oils are best applied to wet skin after showering, before drying off with a towel. It’s perfect really. The oil traps in some of the moisture in the skin keeping it moist, and the water helps the oils spread thinly over the skin. A little really does go a long way. After application you then dry off gently, and you are left with dry perfectly moisturised skin and no oily residue. And honestly I don’t even notice any oil on my towel.

I find body oils fantastic!! I get nice moisturised skin in minimal time and I can get dressed immediately without my clothes sticking to me, or getting cream all over them. Self care that fits into my hectic world filled with the demands of young munchkins. Happy days.

Which oils are best to use?

Body oils can be made using a range of nourishing oils like macadamia oil, castor oil and avocado oils to name just a few. I needed to whip up a body oil quickly so rather than messing around with blending oils I used coconut oil, in summer I like to use virgin coconut oil as it retains more nourishing properties and is liquid in the warmer weather. If it’s cooler fractionated coconut oil is a great choice too. I was surprised I liked this recipe as I don’t generally like the smell of coconut oil on my skin, but the essential oils I chose to use made this body oil smell amazing.
