Castile soap is a blend of plant based oils, and in our case all organic plant based oils. There is no one strict formula for castile soap so ingredients vary from brand to brand. Blooming Mandalas Organic castile soap is made with organic ingredients and is 100% safe and toxin free. This is one versatile product! Did you know castile soap uses aren’t just limited to personal care but household cleaning and a variety of other uses around the home? The uses are endless, although a few are a little left of field for me! It is a soap after all, so the ones suggesting putting it in my mouth just bring a whole new meaning to ” I’ll wash your mouth out with soap!”. Brings up childhood memories that leave a bad taste in my mouth.

16 Uses For Castile Soap

1. Body and Hand Wash

No surprises here, one of the most common ways castile soap is used. Castile soap with filtered water and essential oils in a foaming bottle, too easy! Find our recipe for this here.

2. All purpose Cleaning Spray

2 tablespoons Castile soap in 500ml spray bottle, topped up with water and your choice of essential oils. Use on bench tops, stove tops, in the bathroom and even for the toilet!

3. Fruit and Vegetable wash

A small squirt of castile soap, some Organic Bicarb in a sink full of water will wash those fruit and veggies. Just be sure to rise them with fresh water before drying and putting away, unless like in my house they get eaten before you get a chance to put them away!.

4. Shaving Cream

Place some castile soap in damp hands and rub to produce a lather. Place on the hairy bits and shave away. Using a foaming Soap Dispenser works great for this!

5. Dishwashing liquid

A small squirt in your sink of hot water and wash and rinse as normal.

6. Makeup Remover

Mix equal parts castile soap, witch hazel and coconut oil in a dropper bottle. Apply to a soft cloth and wipe over face removing makeup while moisturising the skin.

7. Floor Cleaner

2 tablespoons of Castile soap in 4l of hot/warm water and mop as per normal.

8. Makeup Brush Cleaner

A small squirt in a bowl of warm water is all you need, place brushes in and apply as much agitation as required. Rinse and leave to dry.

9. Toothpaste

Ok so this is one I really don’t think I would try, maybe it’s the memories of mum threatening to wash my mouth out with soap as a kid!?
You simply add a drop onto your toothbrush and brush your teeth. I would suggest adding a drop of peppermint oil to mask the soap taste if you were to try this. ALOT of peppermint haha! ewwwwww

10. Mouthwash

Another nightmare inducing application in my opinion, however I guess if you had horrible breath this is better than breathing that stench onto unsuspecting victims!
Add a drop to a ¼ cup of water and rinse as you would normal mouthwash. Again I would suggest some peppermint oil to mask that soapy flavour.

11. Clothing Stain Remover

1 tablespoon of castile soap mixed with 1 tablespoon of bicarb mixed to form a paste. Rub this into the stain, adding water if required and wash as normal.

12. Carpet Stain Remover

¼ cup castile soap mixed with one cup of water mixed in blender to create a foam. Use this foam on carpet stains and scrub and dab with fresh water once its clean.

13. Wall Wash

Place 1 cup castile soap in a bucket of warm water and wash away those grubby marks.

14. Car Wash

Add a squirt into a bucket of warm water and wash and rinse your car as normal.

15. Garden Pest Spray

1 teaspoon in a 500ml spray bottle topped up with water and apply to plants to keep those pesky bugs away. If you are applying on edible plants I would recommend rinsing before consumption, just to ensure it doesn’t taste soapy.

16. Pet Shampoo

Apply castile soap to wet pet fur and lather. Rinse well. For added flea protection you could add a few drops tea tree oil to the wash.

Some of these ideas you may have heard of, others maybe not. I think we can all agree there are some great uses for this very versatile ingredient! Perhaps we can also agree there are some uses perhaps best left to situations where we have no other option. If anyone decides to try brushing their teeth or using it in a mouth wash please can you let me know how it went?! I am intrigued to know but not enough to brave it myself!
